Why Choose a Passphrase?

Traditional passwords like P@ssw0rd123! are becoming easier for computers to crack but harder for humans to remember. A passphrase like correct-horse-battery-staple uses the power of length and randomness to create a credential that would take a supercomputer billions of years to guess, while remaining easy for you to visualize and type.

The Math Behind the Security

Each word in our generator is chosen from a list of 7,776 words. A 4-word passphrase has over 3.6 trillion possible combinations. A 6-word passphrase has more combinations than there are grains of sand on Earth. This "entropy" is what keeps your accounts safe.

Private and Local

We use the Web Crypto API to generate cryptographically strong random numbers directly in your browser. Our wordlist is bundled with the application, so no network requests are made during generation. Your new secure passphrase stays between you and your screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

A passphrase is a sequence of words used as a password. It is typically longer than a traditional password but easier to remember. For example, "correct-horse-battery-staple".
Length is the most important factor in password strength. A passphrase made of 4 or 5 random words has much higher entropy than a complex 8-character password, making it far more resistant to brute-force attacks.
Diceware is a method for creating passphrases by using dice to randomly select words from a specific list. Our generator uses a high-entropy random number generator to simulate this process.
