What is a Discount Calculator?
A discount calculator determines the final price of an item after a discount has been applied. It's a handy tool for shopping during sales events, negotiating purchases, or for business owners setting promotional pricing.
How is Sales Tax applied?
In most jurisdictions, sales tax is applied to the discounted price of an item, not the original sticker price. Our calculator follows this standard rule. It first subtracts your discount from the original price, and then calculates the tax based on that new, lower subtotal.

In almost all retail scenarios, tax is calculated on the price *after* the discount has been applied. This calculator follows that standard retail convention.
Currently, this calculator supports a single primary discount. If an item has an additional "X% off the already reduced price", you would need to calculate the first discount, then use the new price as the Original Price for the second calculation.
